The election campaign of Dr. Hasan Mahmud, the Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League candidate from Chattogram-7 constituencies, commenced yesterday with a unique start – he crossed the Karnaphuly River by boat, reminiscent of the campaign style of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who had cycled during his electoral campaign in 1954. Speaking at a street meeting in Ranguniya, Dr. Hasan highlighted the symbolism of the 'Boat' as their electoral symbol.

Dr. Hasan recalled Bangabandhu's campaign methods: "Recalling the memory of Bangabandhu, today I crossed the Karnaphuli river by boat and started the election campaign by cycling from the party office." He hoped the January 7th election would be conducted freely, fairly, and transparently, with significant voter participation.

Amidst alleged conspiracies by the opposition BNP from both domestic and international quarters, Dr. Hasan Mahmud noted the prevailing festive mood surrounding the upcoming election. He affirmed that thousands of voters in Ranguniya would actively participate and rejected those who had conspired against the election, claiming they were now in hiding.

Commenting on BNP's recent announcements of arson attacks on public transport, Dr. Hasan emphasized that such actions were acts of terrorism, not political programs. He accused BNP-Jamaat of plotting against the election and asserted that they underestimated the government's ability to hold a successful election.

The Information Minister urged the public to vote in favour of the 'Boat,' the electoral symbol of the Awami League. Reflecting on his continuous engagement with the people of his constituency, he stated, "I've always tried to stay beside the people of my area."

Dr. Hasan Mahmud acknowledged that, like any government, mistakes might occur, but he asserted that the country progressed under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Seeking cooperation from all parties, he emphasized his openness and accessibility to people from all walks of life.

During a street meeting in Chowmohuni, Mariamnagar, Dr. Hasan discussed the country's progress under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership. The function included addresses by Chairman of the Election Management Committee Swajan Kumar Talukdar, north district Awami League leaders, and Election Management Committee Secretary Engineer Shamsul Alam Talukder, among others.
