15 railway coaches suitable for running on broad gauge lines made by China have been released at Chittagong Port for use in the Padma Bridge Rail Link Project. A total of 80 coaches have come to the country. With these coaches built in the color of the red-green flag, the Panama flagship MV Union Luck arrived at Jetty No. 12 of Chittagong Port on Friday (May 19) night.
Port Secretary Omar Farooq said that they were released in the presence of railway officials.
According to railway sources, 15 railway coaches coming to the port have been taken to Chittagong Port Yard under special arrangements. Later from there, it will be taken to Syedpur Railway Workshop via Tongi. After completing various technical activities, the coaches will be sent to Dhaka.
Sources related to the project said that a total of 100 Chinese-made broad gauge railway coaches will be brought for the Padma Bridge project. The coaches are manufactured by CREC Tangshan Company Limited of China. The 100 coaches include 25 non-AC chair coaches, 35 AC chair coaches, 15 sleeper coaches, 15 dining and guard rake attached coaches, and 10 power cars. Each coach has 100 seats.
Railway officials said that after the inauguration of the 'Padma Setu Rail Link Project' in June this year, trains will run under the bridge. At 172 km, the railway from Dhaka reached Jessore via Padma Bridge. In the first phase, train movement will start on the 82 km railway from Dhaka to Faridpur's Bhanga Upazila.
