Today, Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader accused BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, currently in London, of attempting to undermine Bangladesh's political stability. Quader expressed these concerns during his speech at the inauguration of a polling agent training program held at the AL office in Tejgaon, Dhaka.

The event, focusing on preparing polling agents for the upcoming elections, was overseen by Saber Hossain Chowdhury, head of the AL polling agent training sub-committee and the party's candidate for Dhaka-9.

Quader, who also serves as the Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, highlighted the unusual nature of the BNP's actions. He pointed out that while election boycotts are not uncommon worldwide, the level of sabotage associated with the BNP is rare.

Referring to Tarique Rahman, Quader criticized his absence from the country and his alleged efforts to disrupt Bangladesh's democratic process from abroad. He accused Rahman and his family, including his father, former military dictator Ziaur Rahman, and mother, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, of initiating a legacy of political violence and conspiracy in Bangladesh.

Emphasizing the importance of fair elections for democracy, Quader expressed regret over the BNP's decision to not participate in the polls, noting that their involvement would have made the elections more competitive. He described the current pre-election atmosphere as festive, despite the BNP's absence.

Quader condemned the opposition's tactics, accusing BNP-Jamaat elements of terrorist acts and sabotage, including attacks on public transport and trains.

Addressing the issue of the caretaker government system, Quader declared it a closed chapter, asserting that Bangladesh should conduct its elections in line with other democratic nations, under the guidance of the Election Commission (EC).

He assured that the AL would cooperate with any EC actions to maintain the integrity of the electoral process and emphasised the importance of upholding the party's reputation. Quader stressed the need for all polling agents to adhere to regulations and expressed a desire for peaceful elections without any accusations of misconduct, in line with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's wishes.

The training program for AL polling agents, held in two sessions from 10 am to 4 pm, is part of the party's preparations for the 12th national elections, under the guidance of its Polling Agent Training Sub-Committee.
