The King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, has called on Salman F Rahman, Adviser on Private Industry and Investment to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, to accelerate the development of the Bhutan Economic Zone in Kurigram. This appeal was made during a courtesy meeting in Bhutan on Saturday, June 15.

Call for Expedited Action: King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck emphasized the importance of speeding up the implementation of the Bhutan Economic Zone in Kurigram, recognizing its potential benefits for both Bhutan and Bangladesh.

Invitation to Bangladeshi Investors: The King highlighted the ongoing construction of an economic hub in the Gelephu district of Bhutan and invited Bangladeshi investors to participate in this emerging opportunity. This invitation is seen as a gesture to strengthen economic collaboration between the two countries.

Strategic Location of the Economic Zone: The proposed site for the Special Economic Zone is strategically situated approximately 500 meters from the Dharla River and one kilometer from Kurigram town, positioning it advantageously for trade and logistics.

During a recent visit to Bangladesh, King Wangchuck inspected the proposed site for the Bhutan Special Economic Zone, underscoring the collaborative efforts between the governments of Bangladesh and Bhutan.
