The response, handed over by Bangladesh's Foreign Minister, Hasan Mahmud, outlined the commitment to further strengthen bilateral ties and explore new avenues for cooperation.

A meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday (February 25) between Bangladesh's Foreign Minister, Hasan Mahmud, and a US delegation led by Eileen Laubacher, special assistant and senior director of South Asia at the US National Security Council. The Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States, Mohammad Imran, played a crucial role in facilitating the discussion, and the original copy of the letter is expected to be handed over to the White House.

The meeting involved key participants from both sides, including USAID Assistant Administrator for Asia Michael Schiffer, Deputy Assistant Secretary Afrin Akhtar of the State Department's Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, and CDA Helen LaFave of the US Embassy in Dhaka.

The discussions centered around deepening existing relations and exploring new avenues for collaboration. Economic cooperation, trade and investment, Rohingya humanitarian assistance, climate change, and the energy sector were highlighted as priority areas for mutual engagement.

The Foreign Minister reiterated Bangladesh's commitment to a firm stand against any form of war. Bangladesh urged the US to utilize its influence to achieve a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, showcasing the nation's active stance on global peace initiatives.

President Biden's letter had expressed interest in collaborative efforts on regional and global security, economic development, climate change, energy, and humanitarian aid, particularly for Rohingya refugees.

The exchange of letters between President Biden and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina marks a positive step towards reinforcing the strategic partnership between the United States and Bangladesh.
