Shaikh Yusuf Harun, Executive Chairman and Senior Secretary of Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA), disclosed this information during an exchange meeting held at the Kurigram Press Club. According to Harun, a delegation from Bhutan had previously visited Kurigram on March 10 to explore economic opportunities in the region. Bhutan's interest in economic zones is evident, and discussions are underway to sign an agreement during King Jigme Khesar's visit.

Location and Agenda

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck is expected to visit the Special Economic Zone in the Madhabaram area, situated on the east bank of the Dharla River in Bhogdanga Union of Kurigram Sadar Upazila. This visit underscores the commitment to fostering economic cooperation between Bhutan and Bangladesh. If all goes according to plan, the King will grace the Kurigram Economic Zone on March 28, emphasizing the growing importance of economic collaboration between the two nations.

Development Initiatives

The establishment of a special economic zone in Kurigram aligns with the promises made by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to bolster economic growth and development. The district administration has already allocated 133 acres of land to BEZA for this purpose, with efforts underway to acquire an additional 86 acres. In total, 211 acres of land will be designated for the economic zone, highlighting the commitment to facilitating investment and fostering economic prosperity in the region.
