Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury addressed reporters following a meeting of the Government Procurement Committee, shedding light on misinformation surrounding an alleged award to Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus by UNESCO.

As the chairman of the Bangladesh National Commission for UNESCO (BNCU), Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, along with BNCU Deputy Secretary Zubaida Mannan, took prompt action to investigate the matter. Contacting UNESCO headquarters, they confirmed that UNESCO had not bestowed any award upon Muhammad Yunus.

Education Minister clarified that the confusion arose from an event in Baku, Azerbaijan, where Israeli sculptor Hedvasar presented Yunus with a memorial at the invitation of the Ghaznavi International Foundation. However, this award was not affiliated with UNESCO, contrary to initial claims.

Expressing concern over the dissemination of false information, Education Minister emphasized the unethical and criminal nature of such actions. He announced plans to send an explanation to UNESCO, correcting the misinformation and warning against the fraudulent representation of awards.

Minister Chowdhury highlighted the sensitivity of the issue, noting that it tarnished the reputation of both Muhammad Yunus and the country. He also revealed his intention to inform UNESCO about Muhammad Yunus's legal issues, specifically his punishment for violating labor laws. This would serve as a cautionary measure against Yunus's misrepresentation of UNESCO affiliations.

In conclusion, Minister Chowdhury reiterated the government's commitment to addressing the issue with UNESCO, ensuring the integrity of awards, and preventing the spread of false information.
