Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj witnessed a historic moment as an estimated 6 lakh Muslims gathered to offer Eid-ul-Fitr prayers, marking the 197th Eid congregation at the revered ground. The atmosphere was filled with spiritual fervor and devotion as devotees congregated well before the prayers, filling the vast Eidgah ground to its capacity by 9 am, under the vigilant eye of tight security arrangements.

The prayers, conducted by Shoaib bin Abdur Rauf, Imam of the local Boro Bazar Mosque, commenced at 10 am, following the tradition of three gunshots signaling the start. Post-prayer proceedings included a sermon and munajat for the wellbeing of the Muslim Ummah, including Bangladesh.

To ensure the convenience and safety of devotees, special trains named "Sholakia Special" were arranged by the railway authorities from Mymensingh and Bhairab. Additionally, stringent security measures were in place, with restrictions on carrying anything other than caps, masks, and prayer mats. Vehicular movement in the city was restricted, and a large number of volunteers and medical teams were deployed to assist the devotees.

The security arrangement, comprising five platoons of BGB, police, RAB, and Ansar members, was designed meticulously with a four-tier approach, mindful of the militant attack at Sholakia in 2016. Intelligence agencies operated in plainclothes to monitor the situation, while CCTV cameras, watchtowers, and police drone cameras ensured comprehensive surveillance.

Established in 1828 by Dewan Hayat Khan Bahadur on the banks of the Narasunda River, Sholakia Eidgah holds historical significance. From its inaugural congregation attended by 1.25 lakh Muslims, the ground has grown in prominence, now accommodating record turnouts like the recent gathering of 6 lakh devotees.

The name "Soa Lakhi Maath," originating from the initial congregation's attendance, evolved over time to "Sholakia Maath," signifying its enduring legacy and significance in the hearts of believers.

The Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at Sholakia Eidgah stand not only as a testament to the unity and devotion of Muslims but also as a symbol of resilience and faith in the face of challenges, as evidenced by the robust security measures undertaken to ensure a peaceful and blessed congregation.
