In a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the ruling party of running what he termed as a "school of corruption" in the nation. Alleging that Modi himself teaches under the subject of 'Entire Corruption Science', Gandhi claimed that the BJP has made this course mandatory for its leaders. This statement comes amidst a backdrop of heightened political tension as India witnesses the initial phase of the Lok Sabha polls.

The Election Commission (EC) announced a commendable 62.37 per cent voter turnout in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections. Despite concerns over the ongoing pandemic and logistical challenges, citizens displayed enthusiasm in exercising their democratic right.

Polling took place across 102 constituencies spanning 21 states and Union Territories, with the commission describing the turnout as "high" and noting that the process remained "largely peaceful". Notable changes were observed in certain regions compared to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, with varied voter participation percentages.

In a significant development, several states and Union Territories completed their voting process in a single phase, including Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep. Notably, the indigenous tribal communities, especially in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, demonstrated substantial voter engagement, with the historic participation of the Shompen tribe of Great Nicobar marking a milestone in democratic inclusion.

Further enhancing accessibility and convenience, 56 villages in Bastar, Chhattisgarh, witnessed polling booths set up within their own localities, facilitating increased voter turnout.

However, the electoral process was not devoid of challenges. Citizens braved adverse weather conditions, enduring scorching heat and heavy rainfall in various parts of the country. Despite these obstacles, individuals exhibited resilience and patience, underscoring the significance they attribute to their electoral participation.

As the nation awaits the final tally and scrutinizes the election dynamics, Rahul Gandhi's allegations of corruption against the ruling establishment add another layer of complexity to the ongoing political discourse. The subsequent phases of the Lok Sabha elections will undoubtedly witness intensified campaigning, as political stakeholders endeavor to sway the opinions of the Indian electorate.
