The Incident

The dam, a symbol of the growing cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan, was located in the border area. The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, also attended the inauguration ceremony.

The helicopter carrying President Raisi crashed in the remote mountainous region near Zolfa, East Azerbaijan. The other two helicopters in the fleet managed to reach their destination safely.
