In a tragic turn of events, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ibrahim Raisi, and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdullahian have been martyred following a helicopter crash. The Iranian Red Crescent Society confirmed that the helicopter carrying the president was found after an extensive 15-hour search in a remote mountainous area, where extreme weather conditions posed significant challenges.

Hossein Salami, the chief commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), verified the authenticity of the news, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the nation's leaders. Despite the swift efforts of nearby rescue teams, it was reported that none of the helicopter's occupants survived the crash.

The Incident

The helicopter crash occurred while President Raisi and other high-ranking officials were returning to Tabriz, the capital of Iran's East Azerbaijan province, after inaugurating a dam in collaboration with Azerbaijan. The dam, a symbol of the growing cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan, was located in the border area. The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, also attended the inauguration ceremony.

The helicopter carrying President Raisi crashed in the remote mountainous region near Zolfa, East Azerbaijan. The other two helicopters in the fleet managed to reach their destination safely.
