Supreme Court Bar Association Election Results

The Supreme Court Bar Association Election for the 2024-2025 session concluded with Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon being elected as the President and Advocate Shah Monjurul Hoque as the General Secretary. The election results were announced by the convener of the election sub-committee, senior lawyer Abul Khayer, at 9 pm on Saturday. The polling took place over two days, Wednesday and Thursday, and was marked by a peaceful atmosphere.

Election Results

In the race for the president's post, BNP-Jamaat backed blue panel candidate AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon secured victory with 2,622 votes, while his opponent, Awami League-backed white panel candidate Abu Sayeed Sagor, received 2,539 votes.

For the position of general secretary, white panel candidate Shah Monjurul Hoque emerged as the winner with 2,891 votes, defeating his closest rival, blue panel candidate Md Ruhul Quddus (Kajal), who received 1,702 votes. Additionally, Secretary candidate Nahid Sultana Juthi garnered 269 votes.

Distribution of Posts

Out of the 14 available posts, the Awami League-backed white panel secured ten, including two vice-presidents, two assistant general secretaries, treasurer, and four executive members. On the other hand, the BNP-backed panel secured the remaining four posts, including the president and three executive members.

Voter Turnout

The election saw active participation, with 5,319 out of 7,883 registered voters casting their votes over the two-day period. The voting process was conducted smoothly, from 10 am to 5 pm on both days, with a one-hour break in the afternoon.
