Bangladesh Announces Squad for T20 World Cup

In preparation for the upcoming ninth edition of the T20 World Cup, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has unveiled its formidable 15-men squad, with pacer Taskin Ahmed receiving the prestigious appointment of vice captaincy. The tournament, slated to be held across the United States and the West Indies from June 2nd to 29th.

Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, the chief selector of the BCB, disclosed the squad during a press conference at the revered Mirpur Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium today. Taskin's inclusion in the squad was initially clouded by doubts following an injury sustained during the fourth match against Zimbabwe. However, the selectors have exhibited unwavering faith in the talented pacer, entrusting him with the role of Najmul Hasan Shanto's deputy.

Notably, Hasan Mahmud and Afif Hossain have been named as reserve cricketers, providing valuable backup to the main squad.

Ahead of the highly anticipated World Cup, Bangladesh embarked on a home series against Zimbabwe, securing a commanding 4-1 victory, serving as crucial preparation. Another series against the United States looms on the horizon, scheduled to commence on May 21st.

In the thrilling tournament, Bangladesh finds itself placed in Group D alongside formidable opponents such as Sri Lanka, South Africa, Nepal, and the Netherlands. The team is poised to kick off its campaign against Sri Lanka in Dallas on June 8th, followed by a clash with South Africa on June 10th. Subsequent encounters await against the Netherlands and Nepal on June 13th and 17th, respectively.

The Bangladesh squad boasts a formidable lineup comprising Najmul Hossain Shanto as captain, supported by the seasoned expertise of Liton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mahmudullah Riyad, among others.
