Kolkata, May 26, 2024 — A three-member delegation from Dhaka Metropolitan Intelligence Police has arrived in Kolkata to investigate the murder of Jhenaidah 4 Constituency Member of Parliament Anwarul Azim Anar. The team, headed by Additional Commissioner Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid, includes Wari Division DC Muhammad Abdul Ahad and ADC Shahidur Rahman.

The delegation departed from Dhaka on a US-Bangla Airlines flight at 10 am on Sunday and arrived in Kolkata at 11 am Bangladesh time. The primary objective of their visit is to examine the crime scene and interrogate suspects held by India's Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

MP Anwarul Azim Anar was brutally murdered in Abhiyat Flat, Kolkata, prompting a cross-border investigation. The Public Security Department of Bangladesh's Ministry of Home Affairs granted the delegation official approval to travel on Friday, despite it being a holiday.

The investigation has involved close cooperation between the intelligence agencies of Bangladesh and India. Kolkata CID officers have previously visited Dhaka and conducted joint interrogations with their Bangladeshi counterparts. These collaborative efforts have led to the identification of key suspects involved in the murder and the subsequent disappearance of Anwar's body.

During the meetings between the intelligence officers of both countries, it was uncovered that the murder plot was orchestrated by Akhtaruzzaman Shaheen. The plan involved killing and dismembering the bodies of identified criminals from both countries. Two primary executors of this plan were identified:

Amanullah alias Shimul: A notorious killer affiliated with Khulna's East Bengal Proletarian Party.
Jihad alias Siam: A highly skilled butcher from India.
The investigators have determined that these individuals were specifically chosen to carry out the heinous crime.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Intelligence Police team will work closely with Kolkata CID to further interrogate the suspects and gather more evidence. Their findings will be crucial in bringing those responsible for MP Anar's murder to justice and ensuring that the perpetrators face the full extent of the law.

The delegation's visit underscores the commitment of both countries to collaborate effectively in solving cross-border crimes and enhancing regional security.
