Today marks the 44th Homecoming Day of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a significant event commemorating her return to Bangladesh after a prolonged exile.

On this day in 1981, Sheikh Hasina, the eldest daughter of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, stepped foot on Bangladeshi soil once again. Following the tragic assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15, 1975, Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana were forced into exile to escape a similar fate.

After spending six years in exile, Sheikh Hasina's return was met with an overwhelming outpouring of support from the people of Bangladesh. Despite adverse weather conditions, throngs of people gathered at Dhaka's Kurmitola Airport to welcome her back home. The city of Dhaka transformed into a sea of processions and crowds, with slogans echoing the streets from morning till midnight.

Addressing the massive gathering at Manik Mia Avenue, Sheikh Hasina expressed her unwavering commitment to fulfilling her father's vision and avenging his assassination by implementing his ideals. She declared her willingness to sacrifice everything for the betterment of the Bengali nation and its people.

President Md. Sahabuddin, speaking on the occasion, hailed Sheikh Hasina's homecoming as a pivotal moment in Bangladesh's democratic history. He praised her role in championing the spirit of the liberation war and advancing the cause of democracy in the country. Under her leadership, Bangladesh witnessed the fall of dictatorship and the restoration of democracy through mass movements in the 1990s.

The President highlighted Sheikh Hasina's remarkable achievements, including winning the general elections, signing crucial agreements with neighboring India, and initiating trials for the perpetrators of Bangabandhu's assassination. He also acknowledged her government's multifaceted programs aimed at improving the welfare of the people, enhancing Bangladesh's image on the national and international stage.

On this auspicious occasion, President Md. Sahabuddin extended his heartfelt wishes to Sheikh Hasina and her family, wishing them good health, long life, happiness, and prosperity. He also expressed hopes for the continued success of the government under Sheikh Hasina's visionary leadership and commitment to public welfare.

The Homecoming Day of Sheikh Hasina stands as a poignant reminder of resilience, courage, and dedication to the ideals of democracy and national progress. As Bangladesh continues to march forward under her leadership, the legacy of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman lives on through his daughter's unwavering determination and service to the nation.
