Today marks the 44th Homecoming Day of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a significant event commemorating her return to Bangladesh after a prolonged exile.

On this day in 1981, Sheikh Hasina, the eldest daughter of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, stepped foot on Bangladeshi soil once again. Following the tragic assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15, 1975, Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana were forced into exile to escape a similar fate.

After spending six years in exile, Sheikh Hasina's return was met with an overwhelming outpouring of support from the people of Bangladesh. Despite adverse weather conditions, throngs of people gathered at Dhaka's Kurmitola Airport to welcome her back home. The city of Dhaka transformed into a sea of processions and crowds, with slogans echoing the streets from morning till midnight.

President Md. Sahabuddin, speaking on the occasion, hailed Sheikh Hasina's homecoming as a pivotal moment in Bangladesh's democratic history. He also acknowledged her government's multifaceted programs aimed at improving the welfare of the people, enhancing Bangladesh's image on the national and international stage.
