BNP leaders remanded for rail sabotage

A Dhaka court today granted a three-day remand to two leaders of Juba Dal and Chhatra Dal, who were arrested on charges of uprooting the railway tracks at Sreepur in Gazipur on December 13.

The two remanded are the former Chhatra Dal vice president and current Juba Dal leader M Ekhtiar Rahman Kabir, 43 and President of Metropolitan Chhatra Dal Imon Hossain, 19.

The investigating officer of the case brought the accused to the court and applied for a seven-day remand on Monday. After the hearing, the judicial magistrate of Dhaka Mujahidul Islam granted a three-day remand to the accused.

It is known that DMP's Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) arrested them on Sunday night.

According to a case source, on December 13, seven coaches of Mohanganj Express were derailed due to a 20-foot stretch of rail track was uprooted in Bankhuria area of ​​Sripur Upazila of Gazipur on the Dhaka-Mymensingh railway route. At that time, one person was killed and at least ten people were injured. 

These two people were arrested on the charge of sabotage by raiding. At that time, the police said that the equipment for cutting the railway line was recovered.
