In a shocking incident that unfolded at Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical Colleg in Sirajganj, Raihan Sharif, a teacher at the institution, was arrested on Monday after allegedly shooting a student during a heated argument. The victim has been identified as Arafat Amin, a third-year student at the medical college, son of Abdullah Alamin from Natai Para Dhansindi Mahalla in Bogra Town.

The arrest was confirmed by Sirajganj Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Abdul Hannan, who disclosed that Raihan Sharif was apprehended on the college premises at approximately 5:30 pm on the same day. The firearm used in the incident was deemed illegal, leading to imminent charges under the Arms Act against the accused teacher.

The tense situation on campus escalated as news of the incident spread, prompting an indefinite boycott of classes by enraged students. The atmosphere remains charged, reflecting the gravity of the situation and the students' demand for justice.

Principal Amirul Hossain of Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical Colleg assured that the process of taking legal action against Raihan Sharif is already in motion, acknowledging the need for swift and comprehensive measures to address the incident.

The victim, Arafat Amin, was shot in the right thigh during a viva session in the classroom, according to student accounts. The altercation between Raihan Sharif and the students reportedly led to the teacher brandishing a weapon and firing shots. Arafat Amin, after being admitted to the hospital, is reported to be in stable condition following the removal of the bullet.

Abdullah Hail Kafi, head of the college's forensics department, provided an update on Arafat's health, confirming that the bullet has been successfully extracted, and the student is now in good health.

Sirajganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Arifur Rahman Mondal stated that additional police have been deployed to the campus to maintain order. The recovery of the illegal weapon used in the shooting underscores the severity of the incident.
