A tragic incident occurred today in Gazipur's Kaliakair, where at least 35 individuals, including women and children, sustained injuries due to a gas cylinder fire following a leak. The injured have been admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery for treatment. Health Minister Dr. Samanta Lal Sen confirmed the incident, emphasizing the severity of the burn injuries.

According to Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost, at least 12 of the injured individuals have been identified. They include Golam Rabbi (11), Sharmeen Akhter (4), Maidul Islam, Md Kuti, Md Ariful, Yasin, Soleiman, Md Akash, Noor Nabi, Nirab, Moshammat Shilpi, and Mohammad Naeem. These victims suffered burns as a result of the gas cylinder fire.

Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Director Abdullah Al Arefin provided further insight into the incident. He stated that the fire erupted around 6:00 pm at a colony adjacent to the Top Star Garment Factory. The cause of the fire was determined to be a cooking gas cylinder, which caught fire due to a leak.

Local residents recounted that the gas cylinder started leaking inside a house within the colony. In an attempt to address the issue, a resident brought the cylinder to the yard to empty out the gas. Unfortunately, this action led to the sudden eruption of the fire, causing widespread panic and resulting in multiple injuries.

Upon receiving reports of the fire, emergency responders from the Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence swiftly arrived at the scene to contain the blaze and assist the injured. The victims were promptly transported to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery for medical attention. Health Minister Dr. Samanta Lal Sen assured that necessary measures would be taken to provide adequate treatment to the injured individuals.
